Balance Bikes from It’s a Baby

September 24th, 2010

Looking for a cool Christmas or Birthday present then look no further – buy online at http://www.itsababy.co.uk/toys

These balance bikes from Norco are just ACE!

A balance bike makes learning to ride a bike for the first time fun and easy because it lets children focus on balance and steering without having to learn to pedal. Most balance bikes are made for kids 2 to 5 years in age and is billed as an ideal learner or first bike. Balance bikes do not have pedals and are designed so that a well-fitting bike allows the rider to put his/her feet down to both move the bike as well as stop the bike. Essentially, the child runs the bike to move it instead of having to pedal.

Balance bikes provide the excitement of riding a bike that kids just love and increases the control that a child has while riding a bike for the first time (this reduces the fear).

On traditional bikes with pedals and training wheels, children have to learn 3 brand new skills at the same time: Steering, Pedaling and Balancing. This can be very challenging and lead to a scary first biking experience. Designers of the balance bikes determined that learning to pedal distracts from steering and balancing. The core idea behind a balance bike is to teach these two skills first; once mastering steering and pedaling on a balance bike, children are ready to learn to pedal on a real bike without training wheels.

Balance Bikes – The Learning Process

On traditional bicycles with training wheels, the rider learns to pedal first and learns to steer and balance last. Learning on a balance bike reverses this process focusing on teaching balance, steering and coordination. Balance bikes have the same steering and balancing challenges of traditional bicycles but provides the comforting ability of being able to stop and steady yourself very easily; your feet are always ready to plant on the ground if something goes wrong.

By removing a lot of the fear of crashing and being out-of-control, balance bikes provide children with the independence of riding a bike on their own. The transition to a regular two-wheeled bike without training wheels is smooth once the child masters the balance bike.

Stokke Xplory Winter Kits

September 23rd, 2010

You can feel the temperature starting to drop, the nights are stating to draw in and there is a real autumnal feel in the air. In preparation for those cold winter months take a look at the Stokke Xplory Winter Kits, the special edition white winter kit arrived in store this week and it is simply devine!

It looks like a very trendy and stylish adaptation of the puffa jacket and has been specially designed to keep your baby warm in the most testing climates. The new Stokke® Xplory® Winter Kit is the best way to protect your child from winter’s chill. Oh, yes, and it’s tested on and used by Scandinavians so it should be more than ok for us here in the UK. I heard this week that the weather forecasters are predicting a more harsh winter than last year. Mind you I think I remember them predicting a barbeque summer this year and that certainly didn’t appear here in Lancashire!

Children’s bodies regulate their temperatures at a different rate to ours. In winter small people need extra protection from freezing temperatures and biting wind chill and this cosy comfy winter kit will certainly help to keep your child safe and snug.

An extra-insulated hood with additional storm cover safeguards your child from harsh winter winds. A tactile sheepskin rim on the hood is soft on your child’s skin. And I am hesitant to use the phrase “best of all” but for you there are fantastic hand-muffs with a sheepskin rim to make winter strolling a pleasure rather than a chore.

Traditional Toys for Christmas from It’s a Baby

September 23rd, 2010

It’s heading towards that time of year again, when parents sneak out of the room during TV ads to avoid the barrage of Christmas toy ads and disappear at the site of the Argos catalogue that features regularly on the kitchen table.

We forget that we were just as bad at their age. In my day it was My little pony, strawberry shortcake dolls and care bears but regardless of the latest plastic toy of the moment I always loved my traditional toys. My Dolls and dolls pram, a skipping rope or the spinning top, the kind of toys that all parents remember with fondness from their childhood or that Grandparents want to give their grandchildren.

At It’s a Baby on Rochdale Road, Bury we have a lovely selection of traditional toys for Christmas, so if you want to buy your little one something a bit different and more traditional why don’t you pop in to see us.

Silver Cross, the iconic traditional British brand are still producing a range of beautifully crafted hand painted coach built dolls prams. Identical replicas of their grown up counter parts, they are supplied with the matching bag and wire shopping basket. A fantastic gift for any little girl at Christmas and a real collectors item. As well as the dolls prams, Silver Cross have 3 other ranges featuring great toys and gifts.

The Homegrown range aimed at babies aged 0 to 12 months features gorgeous bright colours and tactile textured fabrics, with plenty of delightful sounds and motion. Each toy promotes specific skills, such as observation, co-ordination and problem solving.

Remember the poem by Edward Lear about the Owl, the pussy cat and the beautiful pea green boat? This range includes soft toy characters from the poem and a musical ball, each one packaged in a lovely tin presentation box.

The Silver Cross Classic Gift collection is a collectable range of special bears and rag dolls that are all named after unique aspects of Yorkshire, the home of Silver Cross.

As well as our obsession with everything Silver Cross we have some other fantastic traditional toys in store at It’s a Baby, such as The wheely bug, a sit on toy with multi directional moveability. The Wheely bugs come as a lady bird, a lion, a bumble bee and my personal favourite the mouse!.  In the Moover toy range, a delightful selection of traditional wooden toys for 10 months onwards, there is a baby truck, a dump truck, a dolls pram and rocking horse to choose from.

All these toys are available in store now but if you are looking to forward plan for Christmas we have already opened our Christmas order book. We also have a flexible Christmas savings club for those people who want to spread the cost of Christmas.

Mountain Buggy New 2011 Innovations

September 23rd, 2010

Hot off the press from Mountain Buggy has told us about some exciting new developments in the Mountain Buggy range.

The brand new Mountain Buggy Duet

The duet is going to be available from Mid May 2011 so if you like the sound of this product and it fits with your time lines get one on order from us NOW – Call 0844 822 3965
Below is a picture of the duet that I took at a trade event but it is not displayed with the hood, however it will be supplied complete with the hood.

The new Mountain Buggy Duet - Available from Feb 2011

The all new Mountain Buggy Duet is essentially a side by side double mountain buggy swift. It is the same width as Baby Joggers inline twin, the city select, and is in fact half a centimeter narrower than the SINGLE mountain buggy Urban Jungle . How have they managed this amazing feat, well its simple really they have tucked the wheels in so their setting does not add to the width of the stroller at all.

What is even more amazing about the duet is that it can take two swift carrycots or car seats on the chassis

With the new Mountain Buggy Duet we will soon have a beautiful double mountain buggy in a wonderfully compact package!

The price of the duet is £580 so if you know this is the product for you then do give us a call on 0844 8223965 and reserve one now. We don’t need any deposits at this stage but if you place the order with us we can guarantee you receive stock from the initial shipment.

Two other exciting bits of new from Mountain buggy: Firstly, the brilliant Mountain Buggy Duo is now able to take 2 car seat side by side with the launch of new adaptors. At last this is the development that we have been waiting for and it has been a real show stopper for many of our customers. This extra compatibility and flexibility really completes the offering on what we consider to be the rolls royce of the side by side twin systems.

Last and by no means least is the announcement of the Mountain Buggy Free Rider. This is a brilliant idea and in fact won a kind + jungen innovation award. The Free Rider is a toddler buggy board that can be quickly and easily converted into an independent scooter.

The Free Rider is currently only compatible with Mountain Buggy products but watch this space I think we may see modifications in the future to make it compatible with other brands. One of the features I like about the Free Rider is that it can be attached anywhere along the back bar of the chassis of any Mountain Buggy so you can push on one side while you toddler rides on the other.

The Free rider is available in Orange and in Blue and will retail at £79.99. We have been PROMISED they will be in store for Christmas so again if you want to make sure you are one of the first to get one these then do give us a call on 0161 763 4463 to pre order.

Mountain Buggy Terrain New 2010 Model

September 7th, 2010
Redefining all terrain with

Mountain Buggies latest arrival!

Mountain Buggy’s innovative and brilliant design philosophy just extended itself further to create the all new terrain from the mountain trails to the city streets. Staying true to Mountain Buggy’s DNA of simplicity, durability, manoeuvrability, and adaptability the designers have re-engineered their bullet proof urban jungle features with more sport performance technologies, functionalities and superior design to maximise a parent’s freedom. With powerful suspension, front wheel tracking device and 16″ tyres, the terrain gives maximum stability and directional control across all terrain, and with the hand operated active brake, speed can be easily managed to slow or stop ensuring a comfortable and safe ride for the child. It has complete adaptability (for both carrycot and travel systems) and uncompromised child support, giving optimal posture with its structured and padded seating – far safer for a child’s back and far superior than the softer hammock seating that is common in the market.“We saw an obvious gap in the market for parents who wanted more full control of their buggy with their active lifestyle,” says terrain’s head designer Andrew Mawson, “There are no other buggies that could truly handle all terrain and last the distance, yet have the clean aesthetics to look good on the city streets. This was quite a design challenge! We did a lot of research, looking at what parents needed when out jogging and what functionality best suited their pursuits. We also had the great opportunity to meet with active parents and elite athletes, who offered us their sound knowledge and advice on building the best possible all terrain active buggy in the market, and I feel we have done just that.” So with maximum control, maximum performance – who wouldn’t want to challenge the unknown?

The Mountain Buggy Terrain 2010 model is now available to order online at www.itsababy.co.uk but the following url will take directly to the terrain page
